Delays, delays, delays…….

September 22nd, 2009

Well, the famous “Circumstances beyond my control” have once again reared their ugly heads, and it looks like I’m going to have to push back the start of the “My Seattle” course for a bit;  probably a couple of weeks.  I’ll keep you posted.  At about the same time, I’ll also be starting a session of my “Refining Your Personal Vision” course.  Sort of a combination of photography and psychotherapy, it is an exciting course of weekly assignments and group critiques, designed to help you dig down deep in your soul and figure out why you shoot the way you do, and how you can find the the next steps towards excellence.  Stay tuned……

In the meantime, here are a few images from my recent trip to Twisp, WA.

Hi folks,

I’ve just added a page with more details on the My Seattle course.  Clikc on the link to the right, under the heading “Pages”.

I’ve also added IntenseDebate,  so it is easier to post comments to the blog.   Please do so , with any ideas, concerns, questions, and I’ll do my best to answer quickly.  Just hit the Comments link at the bottom of a page, or post.  These should now be tied in with  Facebook , etc.,  so they will appear there as well…but that may take a day or two to become fully functional.

Bear with me…I’m just learning how to do all  this stuff!

Cheers,

N.

Well, it sometimes takes a little while, but I am delighted to finally announce that the first meeting of “My Seattle”, an ongoing course in Street, Documentary, and Travel photography, will take place on Tuesday, September 22nd, 6:30-9:30 pm, at my loft in the Tashiro Kaplan Building in Pioneer Square.

All-City-Door

(More posts soon, regarding other courses and workshops…check back frequently!)

The “My Seattle” class will meet weekly, to shoot the people, culture, and environment of various Seattle neighborhoods. Interspersed with field trips to shoot in Ballard, Georgetown, the I.D, Pioneer Square, and other Seattle neighborhoods (timing by mutual agreement, and as dictated by Seattle weather!) we’ll hold group critiques of our work.

The critiques will address both artistic vision and technical matters…. we will perfect low light and night photography skills, improve use of on camera and auxiliary flash, deal with the challenges of photographing architecture, both interior and exterior, enhance our use of color, and learn to produce exciting and inviting travel photographs.  In fact, we’ll address just about any technical problem that comes up, while working to improve and fine-tune our ability to make strong personal statements.

Over time, we’ll edit our work down to the absolute best images, and by Spring we should be ready to publish a book,  , using one of the online publishing services (such as Blurb or Picaboo), and show off our very personal view of the city we live, love, work and play in

The course will be structured in 10 week segments, with a break of 2 or three weeks between segments, in order to roughly correlate with the quarterly calendars of other educational institutions.

Cost will be $415 per 10 week quarter.  Refer a friend who signs up for the same quarter as yourself, and receive a 10% rebate on your own tuition!

And if for some reason you miss a class, 10% of your paid tuition will be applied to your subscription for the following quarter.  (Sorry, but only one missed class credit per quarter!)

For more information, or to register, send an email to edu (at) acmesilver.com with your name, email address and phone numbers.  Or if you would rather have a chat about it all,  feel free to give me a call, on 206.498.4894.

Payment can be made via PayPal, either from your bank account or a credit card. When you contact us to register, We’ll give you the PayPal account info.  Class size is limited, so register soon!

N.B.  It is a difficult time for many or us, with the economy in a shambles, and many of us struggling to meet obligations.  I strongly believe that everyone should have access to essentials, such as education and health care, and will always try to make it possible for students to take my classes, whatever their financial situation.  If you really want to take this course, but are concerned that the cost might be  prohibitive, please contact me, and we’ll see what we can work out…sliding scale, work trade, etc., all are possibilities.

Cheers,

Neil

Class starts….

August 19th, 2009

Hi folks,
I just looked at the calendar, and it looks like I’ll be able to begin classes the second full week in September…13th -19th. I’ll have dates posted by this weekend.
Neil

Hello world!

August 19th, 2009

Welcome to the Neil’s Edu blog.

This is where I’ll be posting information on the classes and workshops I teach in beautiful sunny Seattle (at least it’s sunny today!)  I’m very excited about teaching from my studio once again…something I always enjoyed in New York and London, but am only just getting around to in Seattle.

Beginning early September, I’ll begin an ongoing class titled “My Seattle”..  This exciting street photography class will meet weekly, shooting the people, culture, and environment of various neighborhoods in Seattle, with group critique sessions designed to help students improve both their technique and vision.   Over time, we’ll edit our work down to the absolute best images, and using one of the many online publishing services (like Blurb),  we’ll publish a book, showing off our very personal view of the city we live, love, work and play in.

I’ll also be teaching my “On Camera Flash” workshop, and a “De-mystifying Studio Lighting” workshop, designed to introduce students to the equipment and techniques used in the studio, using strobe, hot lights, and compact florescents.  And of course, we’ll do  “Street Photography 101″…an introduction to photographing on the street“.  This is a great workshop for those of you who want to photograph people around and about town, but find it a bit intimidating to begin shooting strangers!

So stay tuned…more info, along with  schedules & pricing, to come soon.

And remember what Arnold Newman said….

“We make photographs with our mind and with our heart, cameras are just tools.”
Cheers,

Neil
